Ballad of Serenity (Firefly Theme)

This is all sounds right to me, though it isn't quite as cool
without the slide guitar and violin. I imagine the slide parts are
just glissandos into each chord and some chord vibrato, if you're so inclined. You'll
have to be in open tuning, and all that
jazz. I have tabbed after each verse the violin fills from that
verse, and the violin solo.

I have everything tabbed in standard, but it's definitely easier to
play with a capo on the third fret. However, all the fills and such
are odd to tab what with the shifted numbers, and I figured it out
without a capo, so standard sans capo it is. Simply move everything
down three frets if you're capo'd.

Here are the chords, with an assortment of voicings. Feel free to use whichever one is
best, and don't feel constrained to
fret every single note for the barre chords, since most of the chord
work is on the lower strings.

C X 3 2 0 1 0
   X 3 5 5 5 3
   8 10 10 9 8 8

Bb 6 5 3 3 3 6
   6 8 8 7 6 6
   X 1 3 3 3 1

F X X 3 5 6 5
   X 8 10 10 10 8
   1 3 3 2 1 1

G 3 5 5 4 3 3
   3 2 0 0 0 3

Eb X 6 5 3 4 3
   X 6 8 8 8 6
   11 10 8 8 8 11

(with a capo on the third fret, these
become A, G, D, E, and C, respectively)

  [INTRO] LICK:
e|------------------|
B|------------------|
G|------------------|
D|------------------|
A|------3--6p3------|
E|--3h6--------6----|

*Actually that last note sounds more like a low Eb
than Bb to me, but for the sake of guitar tunings...

[FIRST VERSE:]

C Bb
Take my love, take my land

F               C -> G
Take me where I cannot stand

Eb Bb
I don't care, I'm still free

F                  C -> G
You can't take the sky from me

*Those weird arrows are chord slides. Sounds good to slide a barre
chord from the eighth fret (C) down to the third fret (G).

e|---3tr6---- -----------------------------|
B|----------- ---------------6/8-----------|
G|----------- and --------------------10-8-----|
D|----------- --8---7-5-7-8------------10--|
A|----------- -----------------------------|
E|----------- -----------------------------|

[SECOND VERSE:]

(same chord pattern as first verse)
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me

e|----8/10-8-------------|
B|-----------11-8--------|
G|----------------10-8---|
D|-----------------------|
A|-----------------------|
E|-----------------------|

[VIOLIN SOLO:]

e|-----------------------6-------------------------|
B|------------------6/8-------8--6--6h8p6-----6~---|
G|---------5h7---8-------------------------8-------|
D|---5h8-------------------------------------------|
A|-------------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------------------|

e|-------3h6-3------------------------------------------|
B|---3h6-------6-3---------6-----8------10---11p10-8~---|
G|-----------------5-3----------------------------------|
D|---------------------5/7---7/8---8/10-----------------|
A|------------------------------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------------------------|

[THIRD VERSE:]

C Bb
There's no place I can be

F               C -> G
Since I found Serenity

Eb Bb F
But you can't take the sky from me...

e|---------6--------------|
B|---/6-8-----8-6----/8---|
G|----------------7-------|
D|------------------------|
A|------------------------|
E|------------------------|

And that's it. Enjoy!

The original is definitely Cm and Gm. You can hear the flats the organ plays. Gives it a way more melancholic feel.

Brilliant tab. Definitely play with a capo on 3rd if you are a noob like me (barre chords are hard! :D) Cheers to Sonny for taking the time to tab not only the guitar but the violin as well. Bravo good Sir.

Is the ending riff right? The last one is wrong, I guess: ---------6--------------| ---/6-8-----8-6---------| ----------------7--/5---| ------------------------| ------------------------| ------------------------| Sounds right to me, but the other could also be right.
