The pieces contained in this volume were composed in the decade between 1918 and 1928, the perios in which Howells established himself as a composer of instrumental music. Although he wrote no major work for the Piano, he contributed some finely crafted and charming miniatures to the repertoire of character pieces popular in the early part of this century. This is fine music, idiomatically written for the Piano, which fully justifies its return to circulation in this reprint.
